Our favourite window for breakfast cruises is 9am to noon. Marine traffic on the Bosphorus is light in the morning, the water is calm and the light is at its softest for photographs. In summer the early start also means coolness: breakfast is finished before the heat arrives, and the route can stretch into a swimming stop for those who want one. Weekday mornings are the quietest the strait ever gets, and everything from parking to boarding is easier around the pier.
The route: Istanbul from the breakfast table
The classic two-hour breakfast route depends on your departure pier but generally follows this line: past the Dolmabahçe and Çırağan palaces, a view of Ortaköy Mosque under the Bosphorus Bridge, the Bebek bay and the mansion-lined shore, and a wide arc around the Maiden's Tower on the way back. Three-hour options extend towards Küçüksu, the Anatolian Fortress and even the second bridge.
