Chartering a Boat for the First Time: Process, Questions, Confidence

Your first charter feels like your first apartment lease: the process is actually simple, but every step looks big when it is new. This guide walks through it without the sales gloss.

How the process works

Three steps. One: you send your dates, group size and budget; we reply the same day, in writing, with matching boats, availability and exact prices. Two: you pick the boat and confirm with a deposit. Three: you show up; the captain handles the rest. On day tours the balance is commonly paid on board; weekly charters usually run on a 40-50 percent deposit with the balance settled before departure.

"Is the deposit safe?"

The right question, with a clear answer: every booking comes with a written quote that itemises inclusions, the payment plan and cancellation terms. We work in writing, not in promises, and you will never meet a charge that was not in the quote.

"What if the weather turns?"

The sea has the final word, and the industry's standard guarantee covers you: if the Coast Guard closes the harbour, the trip does not sail and you receive a full refund or a free date change. In borderline weather the captain reroutes to sheltered bays instead of cancelling.

"How do food and drinks work?"

On most day tours lunch is included and cooked fresh on board. Drinks split two ways by boat: bring your own, or buy from the boat's bar; your quote states which applies. On weekly charters food is planned as a per-person package or a provisioning list with the chef, and drinks are always separate.

"Is it suitable for children and non-swimmers?"

Yes. Child life jackets are on board, stops happen in calm coves with ladder access, and the crew keeps watch during swims. One honest note: the crew are not babysitters; supervision stays with the family. Worried about seasickness? Choose sheltered-gulf routes, and if you are very sensitive, look at catamarans.
